The current housing crisis in Australia has not come out of the blue, it has been building for over thirty years as successive governments have failed to take measures to alleviate the rising cost of housing, particularly by their almost total abandonment of public housing construction. And just as it took many years for this crisis to develop it will take years to make housing more affordable again, expressed in this cartoon as a metaphor by the Eyre highway that crosses the Nullarbor, one of the longest stretches of road in Australia.
