I drew this cartoon in response to the recent minimum wage rise for award-free Australian employees. All those on the minimum wage are at risk of plunging below the poverty line as it affords little opportunity for them to build up a rainy day reserve. It seems to me that they walk a tightrope that they could fall off into poverty at any moment; Illness, sudden job loss and a marriage breakup are all factors that could do this. This cartoon is an attempt to reflect that possibility.
