This cartoon was inspired by some statistics I saw recently which reported that the combined weight (biomass) of humans on the planet is estimated to be 390 million tons and the biomass of our domestic livestock is 630 million tons, whereas the biomass of wild land mammals is just 20 million tons and falling. Combine this with the higher then ever rate of deforestation and the massive scale of pollution associated with human activity and it seems to me that humans are metaphorically eating their own planet.
