Raising the standard of living.

I drew this cartoon in response to two things.  Firstly, that while watching the coverage of the Australian election on Saturday night (3^rd May 2025) I noticed that there was almost no mention of the environment as an election issue. Secondly, in the post mortem coverage after the election there were a number of references to the need to increase productivity to raise the standard of living.  It was as if the environment was no longer relevant.

I recognise that Australians have been doing it tough economically and that this election was fought on the economy.  But the economy is a wholly owned subsidiary of the environment, neglect it and eventually everybody’s living standards are going to take a massive hit.
