It seems to me that over the last twenty years Remembrance ceremonies have become increasingly politicised with a subtle undercurrent promoting nationalistic jingoism that runs counter to the original aims of remembering those who served and died in the wars that Australia has been involved in.
I am not a pacifist, I believe that our armed forces should be the best trained and equipped that money can buy and that armed forces personnel should be treated with respect and honoured, but remembrance like the armed forces themselves should be politically neutral.
