I drew this cartoon to express my disapproval of cancel culture. Right from the very beginning of the cancel culture movement I have had reservations about it, and these reservations have only increased. I see it as a type of electronic vigilantism and I have never been comfortable with vigilantism in any form. To me if someone or organization is breaking the law then there is the legal system to deal with them. But if someone expresses an opinion, however objectionable then that is their right. If you don’t like what they say counter it with your own argument, attempting to destroy people’s livelihood just because you don’t like what they say is a disturbing trend.
The me this quote purportedly coming from Voltaire (but more likely from the English author Evelyn Beatrice Hall) says it all…
“I Disapprove of What You Say, But I Will Defend to the Death Your Right to Say It.”
