I drew this cartoon in response to a comment made by a friend that December was cold. In fact the official weather stats for December in Ballarat (where I live) was .5 °C above the maximum average and 1.7 °C above the minimum average. I have noticed that people often misperceive the temperature when you compare it to official weather stats. This is because we are trying to measure it against a variable, for example a couple of warmer than average months that is followed by one close to the average temperature can seem a lot colder than it is. This is because we are comparing it to the previous months’ average temperatures, which are not fixed. This cartoon is trying to show through clothes how we often misjudge temperature.
