I drew this cartoon after seeing my partner’s attempts to navigate the Myagedcare system for her parents. She is a tech savvy tertiary trained allied health practitioner but even she found the system mind bogglingly complex. If she struggles with it how on earth do elderly people without support ever cope with its machinations. Contrast this with when my father, who died thirteen years ago, accessed aged care support. Back then the system was locally based and much easier to access. There have been numerous articles attesting to the complexity and unwieldiness of the Myagedcare system and the need for it to be overhauled to make it more user friendly.
