This cartoon was drawn in response to Donald Trump’s latest round of tariffs on trade goods. While I accept that some tariff protection, especially of essential industries, can be beneficial most economists agree that it is a two edged sword. Trump claims that America is better off with the tariffs he has imposed on other countries but the economic statistics show that these tariffs are hurting the American economy by keeping inflation high, raising consumer costs, and sparking retaliatory trade actions. In the long run excessive tariffs hurt all countries.
