The setting of the sun or the gathering darkness?

With the demise  of traditional news coverage lead by the collapse of print media people are increasingly getting their news from sources that are at best inaccurate and are often intentionally misleading.  While traditional news coverage had its flaws it at least did try to fact check what it published.  The blurring of news, opinion and outright propaganda that pervades much of the internet is making it harder to work out what information is balanced and accurate.  And algorithms are creating echo chambers where people only receive news from narrow perspectives.
