While I accept that some tariff protection, especially of essential industries, can be beneficial most economists agree that it is a two edged sword. Trump claims that America is better off with the tariffs he has imposed on other countries but the economic statistics show that these tariffs are hurting the American economy by keeping inflation high, raising consumer costs, and sparking retaliatory trade actions.
